Local first responders are being recognized for their work to save lives during last year’s tragic shooting at Apalachee High School.
Barrow County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), which is operated by Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS), recently received the Mary Beth Downs Excellence in Trauma Care Award from the Georgia EMS Association (GEMSA). The annual award recognizes an individual or organization in Georgia for outstanding delivery of care to critically injured patients.
“Nominations from across the state were submitted, and the Barrow EMS team’s extraordinary actions made them a clear and deserving choice for this honor,” said Kim Littleton, executive director of GEMSA. “Through their swift actions, seamless coordination, and unwavering dedication to patient care, they consistently demonstrated excellence in emergency care.”
“Families in Barrow County rely on us in an emergency to deliver the highest quality careas quickly as possible, and we take that responsibility seriously,” said Brian Brown, operations manager for Barrow EMS. “We are honored by this recognition, and our hearts are still with the students, teachers, staff and families who were impacted that fateful day last September.”
