The mission of the ORCHID Award is to recognize and promote professional excellence in respiratory care within Northeast Georgia Healthcare System.
Who created the ORCHID Award?
Across the country the healthcare landscape is growing and changing. Consequently, respiratory professionals’ roles are increasingly vital to ensuring organizational success at NGHS. Members of the Shared Governance Committee (VOICE) created the ORCHID award in recognition of respiratory professionals who demonstrate exceptional aptitude in the NGHS

Who is eligible for the ORCHID Award?
All Respiratory and Sleep Services Clinicians and Technicians within NGHS may be nominated for the ORCHID.
Who can nominate a respiratory professional for the ORCHID Award?
A nomination can come from managers, peers or patients/patient families.
How often will the ORCHID Award be given?
The ORCHID will be awarded quarterly. Currently nomination periods for the ORCHID (award announced) are:
- Jan1-Mar31 (April)
- Apr1-Jun30 (July)
- July1-Sept30 (October)
- Oct 1-Dec 31 (Jan)
How does the ORCHID Award election process work?
Nominations will be managed by NGHS Employee Services. At the end of each quarter a blind survey will be completed by members of the Shared Governance Professional Development Council.
What does an ORCHID nominee receive?
- Signage in the respiratory department listing current quarter nominees
- Recognition in the clinical communications newsletter
What does an ORCHID recipient receive?
- Signage in the respiratory department
- Recognition in the Clinical Communications newsletter
- Celebration hosted by the department
