Growing up with a mother who was an OB/GYN, Rana ZouveenoorTariq, MD, felt inspired from an early age to learn about healing and caring for others. Years later, during his residency, he found his calling as a cardiologist.
“I became fascinated by the heart and how it powers the entire body,” says Dr. Zouveenoor (ZOH’-vih-nor), who recently joined Georgia Heart Institute to serve patients in Braselton and Bethlehem. “Cardiology stood out to me because of the chance to make a real difference in patients’ lives through advanced treatments and early interventions.”
Dr. Zouveenoor comes to Georgia Heart Institute after 4½ years as a consultantcardiologist and assistant professor of medicine at Indiana University Health in Bloomington, Indiana. He brings a passion for preventive medicine, helping patients address heart disease before it becomes a serious problem.
“I focus on identifying risks early and helping my patients take steps to safeguard their health,” says Dr. Zouveenoor. “The advanced tools and technology available here at Georgia Heart Institute will enable me to carry out this proactive approach in my practice.”
He completed a Cardiovascular Medicine fellowship at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts, and an Internal Medicine residency at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He earned his medical degree from King Edward Medical University in Lahore, Pakistan.
Outside of work, Dr. Zouveenoor keeps busy with family fun. He and his wife have an 18-month-old daughter, and they found a home in Suwanee. They enjoy hiking and going to local parks. Dr. Zouveenoor, who once hiked to the base camp of Nanga Parbat in Pakistan — one of the tallest and most challenging mountains in the world — also enjoys playing squash, running and hosting backyard cookouts.
“I also like watching history documentaries,” he says. “They’re a great way to explore how the past shapes our present.”
