Vulcan Materials Company, a United States-based company with more than 12,000 employees operating in 22 states and four countries recently designated $250,000 in support of Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) Lumpkin through the Rural Hospital Tax Credit program. The program, which allows individuals and business to designate their state income tax to support qualifying rural and critical access hospitals, enhances access to health care for thousands of Georgians across the state.
“It is through the generosity of companies like Vulcan that we have been able to expand outpatient and emergency services in our current facility while looking to the future with our new NGMC Lumpkin campus, opening in April 2024,” said Kevin Matson, Vice President of Regional Hospitals.
Vulcan is the nation’s largest producer of construction aggregates – which is primarily crushed stone, sand and gravel. Their products are used to build roads, bridges, homes, schools, places of worship and hospitals. They have 42 facilities across Georgia with more than 1,000 employees, including the Dahlonega Quarry in Lumpkin County.
“Our mantra, ‘The Vulcan Way’, means doing the right thing, the right way, at the right time,” said Carol Landrum, manager of community and government relations at Vulcan. “Supporting Northeast Georgia Health System’s vision of providing access to rural healthcare is the right thing to do and we are proud to have played a part.”
Along with NGMC Lumpkin, NGMC Habersham was also identified as one of Georgia’s hospitals with the highest financial need by the Department of Community Health.
The quick and easy application can be submitted through the Georgia HEART (Helping Enhance Access to Rural Treatment) website at georgiaheart.org. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis – and with a funding cap of $75 million, available funds go quickly.
