Our Mended Hearts Program is intended to provide an organized activity that renders quality support and encouragement to heart patients and their families. This is done through visits from trained, accredited volunteers who are members of our local Mended Hearts chapter. They visit heart disease patients before or after their surgery to help answer questions and concerns, offer hope and encouragement, and share educational materials.
Anyone who is a former heart patient, or a family member of a former heart patient, may apply to be a Mended Hearts volunteer.
Our Programs
Volunteers in this program visit heart patients in our Ronnie Green Heart Center, a specialized recovery unit for patients who’ve undergone heart surgery, CCU or anywhere else a heart patient may be a patient.
Mended Hearts meetings are held at various times during the year in Gainesville and Braselton. Educational speakers for these meetings include cardiologists, Cardiac Rehab instructors, and nutritionists. Members offer hope and encouragement to each other by providing living proof that people with heart disease can lead full, productive lives. All of this helps the members learn to manage risk factors, adapt their lifestyles, and improve their longevity and quality of life.
Meetings for the 2024 calendar year will be held on:
February 1, 2024
May 2, 2024
August 1, 2024
December 12, 2024
For more information on location and times, they can email auxiliary@nghs.com or call 770-219-1830.
