People in Northeast Georgia seeking the latest minimally invasive treatments for heart valve disease now have another option as Harvard-trained interventional cardiologist Marc Allard-Ratick, MD, recently joined Georgia Heart Institute. He sees patients in Gainesville and Braselton, caring for people with structural heart problems including congenital heart defects and valve conditions.
“Structural heart intervention is an extremely exciting area of cardiology with groundbreaking advancements happening on a yearly basis,” said Dr. Ratick. “Being able to provide lifesaving treatments to patients using newly approved technologies makes being part of this field highly rewarding.”
Dr. Ratick returns to Georgia where he earned bachelor’s degrees in biology and chemistry and his medical degree from Emory University in Atlanta. He also completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Emory and was named Chief Resident. He then continued training in Boston through Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, completing a fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease, a fellowship in Interventional Cardiology and an advanced fellowship in Structural Heart Interventions.
“The reason that I practice interventional cardiology is to do everything I can to positively affect my patients’ lives during what is often an incredibly difficult time,” said Dr. Ratick. “Beyond this, I aim to provide a sense of comfort to all patients who I treat, whether that be in the clinic or in cardiac catheterization lab.”
Outside of work, Dr. Ratick has a wife and two children, ages 2 and 5, and the family is looking forward to discovering new activities, parks, playgrounds and brunch spots around Georgia.
“I enjoy playing golf, which has become even more fun now that my 5-year-old son has taken an interest,” said Dr. Ratick, “and it would be no surprise to me if he is beating his dad on the course in a few short years.”
