Georgia Heart Institute welcomes nurse practitioner, expands services in Habersham

Published: Thursday, May 16, 2024

Heart patients in Habersham County now have even more full-time heart care available close to home. Georgia native Kelly Greene, FNP-C, recently began seeing patients full time at the Georgia Heart Institute location in Demorest. In addition, Georgia Heart Institute, Northeast Georgia Health System’s (NGHS) comprehensive heart and vascular service line, has expanded the types of cardiac testing and care available at Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) Habersham.

Greene earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree — the highest level of education in the nursing field — from Liberty University. She brings more than 20 years of nursing experience to Georgia Heart Institute, having previously cared for patients in family medicine, urgent care, emergency department, cardiac catheterization lab and inpatient settings.

“As someone with a family history of heart disease, I’m passionate about preventing and treating cardiac conditions,” Greene said. “I’ve spent the last several years in North Carolina, but I’m excited to be back in my home state to care for patients in this community.”

Cardiac diagnostic testing and treatments now available at NGMC Habersham include cardiac stress testing and cardioversion (a procedure to restore the heart’s normal rhythm). NGMC Habersham was also recently designated a Level 3 emergency cardiac care center, recognizing the fast and effective level of care patients receive at the hospital in Demorest.

“We’re excited to welcome Kelly Greene, an experienced and skilled nurse practitioner, to our Demorest location,” said Alan Opsahl, MD, a non-invasive cardiologist at Georgia Heart Institute in Demorest. “Georgia Heart Institute is committed to improving the availability and quality of cardiovascular medicine in rural communities like Habersham County so that our patients can access these services closer to home.”

Georgia Heart Institute is located at 638 Historic U.S. 441, Suite B, in Demorest. Find more information at georgiaheartinstitute.org, or call 770-534-2020 to schedule an appointment.
