About the New Patient Tower at NGHS 

Opening in February 2025, the NGHS New Patient Tower will be the latest addition to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) Gainesville campus. The 11-story, 927,000-foot tower will be located next to the existing North Patient Tower on the NGMC Gainesville campus, and will be adding several highly anticipated improvements.

Emergency Department

  • A new Emergency Department, located on the ground floor of the new tower and expanding the department to care for patients, more quickly and efficiently. 
  • Addition of a Pediatric section with the new Emergency Department dedicated to treating our youngest patients. This space will be named in honor of Dr. Buddy Langston, a longtime pediatrician in our community. 
  • A brand-new helipad will be located on the roof of the tower which will aid in providing faster and more efficient access to support life-saving trauma, heart, stroke and surgical patients. 

Cardiovascular

  • Fusion of our heart and vascular services provided by Georgia Heart Institute, including diagnostic testing, cardiac cath lab and open-heart surgery so patients and their families will experience more seamless care.  

Other Additions

  • Additional operations rooms to expand available surgeries and procedures. 
  • An additional 150 beds for inpatient care. 
  • Parking deck with additional parking spaces. 
  • Adding more than 105 new positions for healthcare workers. 
  • Expansion of the existing Wilheit-Keys Peace Garden and creating additional greenspaces to provide outdoor areas for gathering and reflecting.
