About the Program

The Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Residency Program is to facilitate the transition from student nurse to experienced, confident nurse. The education provided by the program is well-rounded, focusing not only on clinical skills but also critical thinking, teamwork, personal well-being and professional growth. As a participant of the LPN Residency Program, you’ll be enrolled in a structured, comprehensive 12-month program.

    The LPN Residency Program supports your transition into professional nursing practice through: 

    • Orientation with a dedicated preceptor 
    • Use of our state-of-the-art simulation labs 
    • Didactic learning 
    • Quarterly seminars 
  • Support

    Our goal is to provide multiple sources of support throughout the year-long program, which include: 

    • Peer mentor to help transition into the program
    • Residency Program nurse manager
    • Residency Program nurse coordinator
    • Unit support including nurse manager, assistant nurse manager, and unit educator
  • Eligibility

    • Minimum experience: less than one (1) year of experience as an LPN or less than one (1) year of acute care experience 
    • Current Georgia LPN license by program start date
    • Current AHA BLS certifications 
    • Application posting dates:
      • Winter Cohort: September
      • Spring Cohort: April
      • Summer Cohort: February

Our LPN Residency helps new graduates transition by emphasizing orientation, education, and evidence-based practice. We offer three cohorts annually with multiple interview dates three to six months prior to the beginning of each cohort.
